Designations
NSREA's certification program is a process of advancement from one defined category of membership to the next higher level by meeting established requirements.
There are four classes of active membership in the Society. Each one carries an official designation title that members can use only if they have met the education and experience requirements of that category
Certification as a CRA, for example, means that the Board of Directors of the Society has reviewed the record of a Residential Member and approved the advancement to Commercial Member. The member is entitled to use the CRA designation.

Residential Member (RA)
Application must be a Candidate Member and have at least two (2) years in Residential Appraising. Must be a State Certified Appraiser. Said applicant will have passed the The Current Version of the15 Hour Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice and The National Society Of Real Estate Appraisers Residential Appraisal Curriculum or a similar Curriculum conducted by other appraisal organizations or colleges, which has been approved by the National Society of Real Estate Appraisers’ Education Committee. 
Commercial Membership (CRA)
Applicant must have at least three (3) additional years experience in appraising in addition to the two (2) years requirement for RA Designation. Said applicant will be required to successfully pass The Current Version of the 15 Hour Uniform Standard of Professional Appraisal Practice and The National Society Of Real Estate Appraisers Commercial Appraisal Curriculum or a similar Curriculum conducted by other appraiser organizations or colleges, which has been approved by the National Society of Real Estate Appraisers’ Education Committee. 
Master Member (MREA)
Applicant member must submit an application with fee for admission into the Master Designation Program. To qualify, applicant (1) must be a member in good standing of the National Society; (2) must be the holder of a CRA Designation on the National Society Of Real Estate Appraisers, Inc. or a designation of similar quality in recognized appraisal organization; (3) successfully pass The Current Version of the 15 Hour Uniform Standard of Professional Appraisal Practice and The National Society Of Real Estate Appraisers' Commercial Appraisal Curriculum or a similar Curriculum conducted by other appraiser organizations or colleges, which has been approved by the National Society of Real Estate Appraisers’ Education Committee. 4. Successfully complete the National Society of Real Estate Appraisers’ Instructor Certification Program. 5. Hold a NSREA Instructor Certification, Instructor Certification from other Appraisal Organizations or Instructor Certification from The Appraisal Foundation.
